Main activities
"Samruk-Energy" JSC operates in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The main activities include the integrated management of energy assets along the entire value chain, including the production and sale of thermal coal, the generation of electricity and heat, the transmission of electricity through transmission and distribution networks, as well as sales to end consumers.
Electricity and heat are produced on the basis of coal-fired and gas-fired power plants, hydroelectric power plants and renewable energy sources.
Electricity is sold within the framework of a centralised market model through the Single Purchaser, and transmission and distribution services are provided by grid organisations, including the Group's companies, within the scope of their licensed functions.

Key sales markets
- Electricity is sold mainly in the wholesale electricity market through the Single Buyer of Electricity, as well as to end consumers, including households and industrial enterprises.
- Thermal coal is sold in the domestic market of the Republic of Kazakhstan and exported to the Russian Federation.
History of development
In order to develop and implement a long-term state policy on modernisation of existing and commissioning of new generating capacities, "Samruk-Energy" Joint Stock Company was established on 18 April 2007 by the decision of the General Meeting of Founders. The founders of "Samruk-Energy" JSC at the time of its establishment were "Kazakhstan Holding for Management of State Assets "Samruk" JSC and "KazTransGas" JSC. "Samruk-Energy" JSC was registered in Almaty on 10 May 2007.
On 3 November 2008, as a result of the reorganisation carried out through the merger of "Kazakhstan Holding for Management of State Assets "Samruk" JSC and "Sustainable Development Fund "Kazyna" JSC, "Sovereign Wealth Fund "Samruk-Kazyna" JSC, which is the legal successor of "Kazakhstan Holding for Management of State Assets "Samruk" JSC, became a shareholder of "Samruk-Energy" JSC.
Assets
"Samruk-Energy" JSC Group of Companies includes the largest generating companies in Kazakhstan, including facilities of national importance – Ekibastuz GRES-1 and GRES-2, as well as power plants producing electricity and heat of regional importance. It also includes the main hydroelectric power plants of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which are part of the Irtysh cascade of hydroelectric power plants, and hydroelectric power plants in the southern regions of the country, as well as renewable energy sources.
The assets of "Samruk-Energy" JSC also include the regional distribution network and sales company of the Almaty region, as well as the largest coal mining enterprise in the Republic of Kazakhstan - "Bogatyr Komir" LLP. The company supplies coal both to the generating facilities of the Samruk-Energy JSC Group of Companies and to third parties in Kazakhstan and Russia.
